Why I Hate LinkedIn
I’m going to be real with you. I genuinely hate LinkedIn. Not in a soft, “oh it’s not my favorite” kind of way. I mean it. I think it’s one of the most overrated, awkward platforms out there right now. And here's why.
It Was Actually Useful in the Early 2010s
Back in the early 2010s, LinkedIn was a big deal. It was probably the only serious platform where you could find jobs, connect with people in your industry, and actually feel like you were building a professional network.
But those days are gone. Long gone.
Now It’s Just Awkward and Useless
Today, LinkedIn feels like a giant, awkward popularity contest. Of course, people still find jobs through it, but let’s be honest… unless you’re a founder of some random startup no one’s heard of, your chances of landing anything through LinkedIn feel ridiculously low.
And you know what I’m talking about. You open a job announcement, and right away you see “100+ applicants” already applied. In that moment, you instantly know you don’t have a chance, but you still hit "Apply" like it's a lottery ticket.
The Posts Are Just Nonsense
Let’s talk about the content for a second. It’s pure nonsense. Most of the posts are either vague motivational quotes, bragging about irrelevant achievements, or people pretending to be busy building projects no one actually cares about.
And I’m not pretending to be above it. I’ve done it too. I’ve posted random things not because I thought anyone would find them useful, but because I saw someone else posting about their latest project, and I felt like I had to pretend I was doing something important too. It’s like a digital version of peer pressure.
And Then There’s LinkedIn Premium…
Don’t even get me started on LinkedIn Premium. Why should I pay to get a badge on my profile or see who viewed my page? What’s the point? It feels like paying extra just to feel a little less invisible on a platform that already feels lifeless.
Most of the features are useless, and honestly, it feels like a money grab aimed at people desperate enough to believe it might improve their job prospects. Spoiler alert: it won’t.
Final Thoughts
I’m not saying LinkedIn is completely worthless. Some people might still get lucky with it, and there’s always that one guy who landed a great job through a random post. But overall, it’s not what it used to be.
